Draining The Oil

  • With assistance, forklift or other safe working method, lift the remaining dolly assembly onto a raised platform so that the centre is clear of obstacles underneath and the leg castings are bearing the load of the centre section.

  • Note. 1: It is best to do this with the legs in narrow mode as pictured. As my picture collection was not originally done with writing a manual in mind, I have the odd picture of processes missing.

  • Note 2: as long as you do not remove/adjust any chains or undo the wheel casting lock nut the dolly will not need to be re-tracked (assuming that it was tracked to begin with).

  • Sump plug shown while the central casting is inverted during the rebuilding process.

  • With a large bucket or oil pan, remove the brass sump plug under the dolly and allow the oil to drain. The unit contains several litres of oil.

  • Dispose of oil safely according to local environmental guidance and regulation.

  • Note you may have an amount of oil retained in the central column well. This can be removed with a brake-line vacuum at this point or you can wait until you remove the sump plate (expect it to gush out everywhere in the latter case).
